TAKE THE BUMPS IN YOUR JOURNEY PERSONALLY
By Rena Beadle
August 9, 2005, audiences from all over the world watched our family respond to how we handled
challenges. We knew we were supposed to participate in the
reality show, Meet Mr. Mom. We prayed about it, sensed God’s
peace and moved forward at an extremely fast pace. This was
unchartered territory, a path we had never taken before.
However, we did not realize that some of those ‘challenges’ would cause intense emotional pain for Leo
First of all,
anyone who knows Leo knows he is an incredibly PICKY eater! One
morning, he and the boys were told they would fly to San Antonio for an ELECTRIC BULL FIGHT. They were all pumped and ready to go. As they approached the arena, a message from NBC arrived. There would be NO electric bull fight! Instead, there would be a FOOD RACE! For the next several hours, the contest began. Every person had to eat food that they would not normally eat, especially
Leo! For someone who likes eating most everything, such as myself,
it would not be an issue. But, Leo Beadle thought he was not going
to make it through the rest of the show! To this day, he cannot
watch that scene on TV. FIRST OF ALL, the disappointment that it
was not going to be what NBC initially stated, was hard enough.
THEN, to make it a FOOD contest, was horrifying to Leo. Once they
finally arrived at the airport to return home, Leo excused himself and hid in the restroom until boarding
What did Leo do? Did he decide to walk out of the show? Did he decide to have a pity party? Did he question whether we had made the right decision? Initially, he definitely felt like doing all of those things.
He felt lied to. He felt all alone because I
wasn’t there by his side for support and he was exhausted physically and emotionally.
However, in that bathroom stall in San Antonio’s airport,
Leo made a decision to NOT TAKE THIS BUMP IN THE ROAD PERSONALLY!
Instead, he CHOSE to receive God’s GRACE in the situation
as he WALKED through it.
Hebrews 4:16, “So let us come boldly to the throne of our GRACIOUS God. THERE we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we
need it most.”
He found a quiet place to BOLDLY cry out to God.
It doesn’t matter where you are. There is a place you can go to touch God’s heart with your cries for
He RECEIVED God’s mercy. He had to open his heart
to TRUST God’s strength was sufficient to carry him through.
He walked into that bathroom weak and
exhausted. He walked OUT of that bathroom with renewed strength to
PERSEVERE and stay in the game.
YOU CAN TOO! UNTIL NEXT MONTH……..You are dearly
loved by Him who gave His very life for you!
